Tomart's Action Figure Digest Kenner Legacy Part 4
This is a 16 page insert that was originally included in Action Figure Digest issue #148. This insert mainly covers Star Wars and has a bunch of images of the Kenner Princess Leia doll with many extra outfits they had for her. It also have proto-type images for the figures they were working on for Alien. The front cover oddly shows the Peculiar Purple Pie Man from Porcupine Creek next to Strawberry Shortcake in front of Han Solo, lol. This insert is mainly focused on everything but Strawberry Shortcake. She is mentioned as an after though. I think it is very interesting though that the Shortcake line was getting so popular that for some reason they decided it needed to be mentioned in this insert. The last page has a small image of some of the dolls on one side , then the very back page has the picture of Berry Happy Home. I find it interesting how it tells of the story where they were having a licensing problem with American Greetings over a Holly Hobbie Tea Set Kenner was producing in England. Bernie Loomis went to the headquarters in Cleveland to resolve the matter. After being shown the art work American Greetings had for the Strawberry Shortcake Greeting Cards to be launched the following year. Mr. Loomis asked for them to hold the greeting card launch back one more year to product the toy line to go with it. It's part of this sweet Miss. Shortcakes Early Berry History. Bernie Loomis is the former President of Kenner, He predicted that the toy line would produce an extra Million and it surely did and then some. Great piece of Shortcake Ephemera History. So it turns out the cards were the original idea! Thank you Mr. Bernie Loomis for the idea about the toys!!!
We love the cards, we love the toys!!! <3<3<3
