I was so surprised to find this lovely little treasure recently. My oldest Vintage Strawberry Shortcake Greeting card is from 1978. It is a variant of this card below. This is a Special Sister Slate Birthday Card. This lovely version is by Carlton Cards. Unfortunately as almost every single Vintage Shortcake Carlton card I own, there is no date on the back. But I do know these came out first in 1978 based on my other similar slate card. I have added images of the other card from 1978 below. Also just for fun I did a side by side of the two as well. The two cards are made with a different type of paper surface texture. The 1978 version has a sort of line pattern surface texture and this new one is more of a construction paper surface feel. Both are very cute featuring the slate inside. Again it does not have a pen of stick to draw in it. I hope to discover the mystery behind this slate card to see if it did originally in fact come with a drawing stick. The Strawberry Shortcake on these cards is most unusual, She still has her earlier days look to her. Just like the original art from the Barbi Sargent Strawberry Shortcake Valentines Day Card from 1972. Such a lovely piece of history !
